In the metamorphosis of a butterfly, when the caterpillar is fully grown and stops eating, it becomes a pupa. The pupa of a butterfly is also called a chrysalis. The pupa is usually protected inside a cocoon of a silk. It may look like nothing is going on, but big changes would be happening inside the cocoon. That is why this stage is also known as the Transition Stage.
