Do you love a story with wild and crazy Southern oddballs? Then you've come to the right place. As a teenager, I loved reading every True Confession pulp magazine I could get my hands on. To counterbalance, my mother assigned a required classics curriculum. In between, I met a slue of individuals who influenced my greedy imagination. Put all that together and you get what I'm after, Dorothy Parker writing softcore erotic stories about eccentric souls who appear to be commonplace. My favorites thus far are Eudora Welty, Harry Crews, Carson McCullers, Flannery O'Connor and Raymond Carver. I might not be the Pulitzer level of these authors, but I do know one thing. Every one of them would love the characters in my stories.
Small Texas is chock full of flawed characters caught up in sinister situations. A senior older brother calls his sister to pay for his prostitute. A dissatisfied young housewife attends a Total Woman seminar. Twirling class from a tyrannical band director. Just a few of the characters erupting from Small Texas, a collection of short stories from the mind of Cindy Marabito.
