A simple little book, with fun, bright illustrations, that will appeal to the many youngsters who love trucks - especially fire trucks! Ideal as a simple Beginner Reader book, the book gives brief, easy-to-follow, details of the many varied tasks that firefighters do as part of their daily work. The illustrations bring these facts vividly to life. I liked the fact that the author also took the opportunity to introduce a few fire safety tips for little ones - such as STOP, DROP and ROLL if your clothes catch fire, and never to play with matches. Adding a cute puppy to the scenes, as the fire house mascot, should also ensure that younger children do not find the idea of any of the details or activities too scary. This is a book that is educational for little ones, with important messages told in a fun format. It should help to teach young children how valuable our fire fighters are, and how important their duties are in helping to keep us all safe.
My kids love everything about Firehouse 3. Great learning book to read to the kids.
A GREAT LESSON FOR CHILDREN This book is simple and a great lesson for young children, teaching them all about firemen and their service to the community. Nice illustrations. A very talented author!
FIREFIGHTERS AT THEIR BEST: "FIREHOUSE 3: Duties of a Firefighter" is another great children's book by multi-talented Author Joyce Mitchell. I have had the opportunity to read and review several of her books and she never ceases to amaze me with the varied topics that she addresses. I am equally impressed with the learning tools she provides for her young reading audience. In this book, she elaborates on the many duties and responsibilities that firefighters face on a daily basis. When they aren't putting out fires, Author Joyce Mitchell aptly explains how they keep themselves busy with a wide variety of other challenges. The colorful illustrations by Jay Erandika really add to the enjoyment of this reading pleasure. I know my young grandchildren will definitely enjoy this book!
Author Joyce Mitchell has published over thirty children’s books – a crown she appreciates as being a parent and working with children for over ten years, her goal is to inspire and educate kids, through her 'talking animal' and 'rhyming' books she hopes will entertain and teach children important 'life lessons' in a fun and easy manner. The illustrations for this book are the work of Joyce’s frequent illustrating partner - Jay Erandika. We meet Smiley, the Firehouse 3 mascot who introduces firefighters Thunder Todd, Speedy Chris and Lightning Nate. Smiley explains how these firefighter work – sliding down the pole, the clothes they wear for protection, the hoses they use on their truck, fire hydrants, climbing ladders, breaking through walls to protect those in danger, saving lives, checking oil, cleaning the truck, fighting forest fires, rescuing animals, directing traffic, teaching children how to protect themselves, preparing meals, and cleaning the fire station. Joyce also offers a list of fire safety tips of children that are very useful. This is a fine introduction to the world of firefighters – a solid way to let children know what these brave men and women do to protect us. Grady Harp, November 16
